My name is Collin Green.
I believe in the open source movement and the idea that innovation requires both community and competition. Below you'll find some of my projects, both public and private. Many of them are free and open source - please take them, learn from them, expand on them, and make the world better.
I create software because I love it, and I try to help other people love it too.
I am a designer. I am a crafter. I am an artist.
Changing an idea into a working piece of software is a journey that spans many different skillsets and perspectives. Designing requires great insight into both the problem itself and how a user would expect to solve it. Crafting the code is an exercise in focusing deeply on one piece of information without ever forgetting how it fits into the project as a whole. Deploying requires an intricate understanding of how each piece of the puzzle fits together. Maintaining is a careful blending of patience, inductive reasoning, and nimble thinking.
The act of making software is an art completely different in execution from the visual and physical arts, being neither aesthetic nor visceral. And yet, like every art, it is appreciated best by those who practice it and its value comes not from monetary considerations but from elegance, economy of form, and what you can learn from it.
